Dear Friends, I spent the day yesterday with Mr. Bill Ballou, Mr. Don Comb, and Mr. Dale Wheeler at Conservation Day outside of Middleville at the K.O.A. campground...... We spoke to several hundred area school children about rabies and NYS furbearers.....I believe the kids enjoyed the program.....and it would be a worthwhile venture to do more of these type programs if volunteers were available. Regards papabear

Well done my friend!! Education of our youth and society as a whole goes a long ways to help keep our outdoor heritage alive and in good hands in the future. Mr. Ballou,Mr. Comb and Mr. Wheeler thank you also for taking the time to share your knowledge with these kids.

Dear Friends, Thank you for the kind comments, however I cannot take credit as this was not my gig....Mr. Comb and Mr. Ballou are the master minds of this venture and rightly deserve full credit.... I would like to explore future opportunities and ideas to HELP keep this going on behalf of Mr Comb and Mr. Ballou. Regards papabear

The oppertunity to expand is here-----we have had other people in the education field approach us---- and want us to do our thing for there children----as a matter of fact---one talked about having us talk about the various types of traps there are today and explaining how they work--------this oppertunity should not be turned off. Right now its jest in the talking stages ---we can only hope it continues.

That's great to expose the kids to fur.
I have been doing a fur exhibit for two different schools in my area and expanding to a 3rd school this year. The kids love it and get a chance to feel the fur. I have a complete collection of tanned north American fur bearers that I take to school, ( OK I don't have a fur seal or poplar bear etc.)
Most of us have a few tanned pelts you could take to class.

I have thought about going to the local schools and offering to start a club or something to teach kids about trapping and the outdoors and take the kids out on my line for some hands on experience. The thing is I wouldn't know how to go about it and I doubt the school would want anything to do with it. I would love to figure out a way to get more young people into our great sport.

You don't kow until you ask and a "No" doesn't cost anything but a "Yes" can open more doors...
