YUCK! Starlings are a "GAGNASTY" bird. Anything will make decent K-9 bait. But personally I'd stick with the more common baits. I'm sure you'll have plenty of rodent jobs to supply you with bait. If you make bait out everything, you'll just have too much. Chuck those filthy things out in the brush and let them help flowers grow.

Thanks Slyfox for your input, however I have not been doing many rodent jobs ,aside from the nasty mole .I only managed to catch a couple voles from my neighbors yard.My work has been dominated by raccoons .I have been keeping the voles , have one wood chuck . I was trapping an area last season for fox ,and no matter what I used as bait they didn't respond. However there were numerous bird kills (just feathers left) also had the bird hunters complaining to me about how the fox were eating all the pheasant and quail. So was thinking on the bases of MATCH THE HATCH theory.I know I would not use either game bird as bait ,( but dinner). Also know that a starling is a far cry from the latter ,but is a bird . Starlings are every where ,an introduced species. That form winter flocks that number in the millions which stay close to agricultural areas during that time. Although they are a problem I have to say they are a beautiful bird. I also have a problem with waisting the animals that I have to euthanize. One last thing .....How can you have too much bait?

Two years from now come back and read this post. Nothing personal. You can use startlings till your face turns blue..... you might catch a fox, you might catch two. If you use a good comercial bait, it will out perform the starlings 10 to 1. If you used a good bait and it did not work for you, I'd say your on the wrong locations. Just my 2 cents

How bout them game birds you talk about? I eat all the meat from them, but use whats left at my fox, coyote, and fisher sets. Scatter them feathers around and make a hole set with entrails and such. I also use the feathers as a flag to bring them in .

Starlings are not a good bait. They are strong smelling like crow or Maggie. A fox will not choose a starling unless really hungry. Tw

Chickens work,as do the left over parts and feathers of game birds.Never tried any other types of birds so can't comment on starlings from any personal experience. If they have a taste for pheasant like you say just get a buddy that hunts with a group save you feathers and other stuff they might have left from cleaning the birds. If they are preying on them heavily in an area they will respond well to parts and feathers from them.Whenever someone that is having problems with a chicken killer asks me to trap around their place I use chicken parts or the whole birds if they had some killed that didn't get taken. That's a chicken laying there to the left of the hole,it had a taste for chicken so I gave it a chicken.LOL
