On the old #2 square jaw coilsprings. Why did they make two versions - one with the jaw tips facing in and one with the jaw tips facing out? What were the advantages to each?

If I remember correctly ----the jaws with the ends ---faceing each other through the frame---were suppose to lessen the amount of times the jaws were pulled out of the frame--- letting the animal (coyote) run free.

Either Style or way, without NIGHTSTALKER MODS, shocksprings, extra chain and hardening, A stinkdog may pop out the jaws or at least bend them into a U-shape and ruin a good mink or fox trap.
That's why I avoid the nasty stink dog at all costs.

I love the #2 Victor sq. jaw for mink trapping----BUT there is NO dout that after some time at Tom Stalkers its a BETTER TRAP------I have an extra jaw welded in -(out of sq..stock )---the jaw ends are bubbled ----and a base plate is installed----(Flat)---new springs are installed--- and I like a large pan--(bigger than the B&L round)----also 6 swivel points are added to ---30 to 36 ins. of chain ----Its a nice trap when done---We held Beaver -Otter ---Coyotes --- Fisher ---and a bunch of others this past fall------We also lost a few animals---but who dont. The added extras adds weight to the trap---and the mink and muskrats are easly drownded --- the trap is very easy on the smaller animals. I would reccomend this set up to any one that is in a simular situation.----(catches and holds everything on the mink line) ---BUT ---it isnt the SAVE ALL trap ---there are many situations where smaller traps are needed ----- also --- and dont forget the conni-bear .

I do mine almost the same way, except the base plate (center D ring). My extra "jaw" iswhatever spare stock I have. From 3/16 to 1/4 inch. I think EVERYONE is grabbing them up for this.. Maybe Victor will make them again LOL

if i may ask did you weld a piece of sheet metal over the top of the pre-exsisting pan or did you take the piece of a pan where the dog would hook and weld it to a new piece of sheet metal.....seems as either way would work and just put a piece of sheet metal over the exsisting pan would be easier.....same as a mink pan that clips on
