Thanks for the info. FHA grading terms for defects, for those who don't know:
DEFECTS GD SLT (Good Slight): Good quality with small imperfections. SLT DGD (Slight Damaged): Good quality with larger imperfections. GD DGD (Good Damaged): Good quality with large imperfections. REG DGD (Regular Damaged): Average quality with large imperfections. BDLY DGD (Badly Damaged): Extensive damage, little or no value. Tainted: Area of pelt has rotted, little or no value.

Walleye did you send any I's or I - II;s to the auction?[/quote These were my very, very end of my seasons rats that didn't make it on the NAFA truck with Ernie Mosher. The bulk of my spring rats went to NAFA. This is just what I put up too late to get on Ernie's Truck. These were VERY late spring rats, and not Jan/Feb/March catches. If you think these prices are poor, check out what the Dakota Rat trappers averaged and It'll show you the True quality of their Western Muskrat versus our Easterns I posted these prices strictly as an FYI, not to get in any chest pounding matches with a dwarf. I don't pay any mind where anyone sells their fur, but do whatever makes you happy with yours. I'll put my three years running Canadian auction averages up against anyone's NYS Auction/Country Buyer prices , anytime, and whip your butt, even after commissions. Just saying. do what floats your boat. But what is really worth noting in this post is that after two years of continuingly being embarassed by the Canadian Auction's Muskrat Results into raising their prices, NYS Buyers did FINALLY HAVE TO PAY FOR RATS, What they were really worth. It's about Time. Where were they with those prices you all brag about today, two and three years ago ? LOL Just saying. walleyed

That is why I ship to Groeny. People never seem to tell their average after a commision.

That is why I ship to Groeny. People never seem to tell their average after a commision. subtract 3.5% percent for NAFA. Subtract 11% percent for FHA. Don't forget, we know you've only been shipping to Groeny since AFTER the start of 2012. You Need more history, LOL walleyed

I've always been treated fairly by my country buyer, he has paid what I always felt was fair and competitive. I don't think it's fair to imply that all country/local auction buyers lowballed for years. Just saying....
You take nicely handled fur into a buyer who knows what you bring him, you go in knowing what you want for your furs, and you'll do fine. When it comes to damaged fur a local buyer has higher risks, don't expect high prices for crappy fur or for poorly handled fur. Some of the fur I see at auctions is terrible, and it brings averages down. Those with well handled fur do well.

Your local buyer is a good guy Mac, alot of local buyers are good guys and fair........... but.... if a person wants to get the absolute most they can for there fur...... it's hard to beat NAFA or FH. And it goes both ways......... you might get top dollar, you might get screwed. But as Walleyed has pointed out.......... it's pretty hard to beat Fur house auctions numbers consitantly in the country

Most of us trapping is fun, when prices are rising it's a lot more fun---------figuring out where to sell ----sometimes when to sell is all part of the game---------in the end you are the one to keep happy-------I remember being happy as a clam selling coon for 7$ thought there wouldn't be one left as soon as the word got out!!!!------hope the sale at nafa goes well just don't want anyone to know!!!!??----It's a good time to be a trapper!!!------Tom

I sold fall rats at the GVTA Dec sale for $9.30 avg, winter rats at the Feb sale for $12+ avg and spring rats from St Lawrence Co for $9+ average
Just so happened that Dutch at Cocolamus Creek bought the auction rats, so I shipped my spring rats directly to him for $11+ clear (small or no holes), $9+ slight damage and $2 for a couple that were shredded beyond salvation.
fwiw the northern zone rats were nowhere near the size of our finger lakes rats down here. I don't think there was a 17" or even 16+" rat in the whole spring pile
