We should be sorry for his loss .Hank fought for the trappers of NYS for as long as I can remember . Met him in the late 80's , he should be an inspiration to us all . God bless you Hank.

I never met him but he sounds like he was a great protector of our trapping freedoms here in NY. May you rest in peace Mr. Dam. God bless.

I was deeply saddened of this news. I was chasing turkeys Thursday-Sunday and was not around for wake and/or funeral. Hank was one of the last old time trappers on LI. He was a NY Game Protector which was before there were ECO's (long time ago). Hank was a "colorful" man who had many stories. He was known for wearing a wool watch cap and knee high rubber boots 12 months out of the year. He always had fresh apples from his orchard, homemade wine from his small vineyard, fresh berries from his berry patch and a pot of clam chowder on the stove. I had the good fortune spending time with Hank including a memorable trip to Albany to speak to our legislators. RIP old friend.

Hank was Mr.Long Island in the Sportsmen's World. Seemed like everyone knew him. I'm sure that when he reached Heaven he was greeted with "Well Done Hank, Well Done". We will all miss him.
