Is it OK to use burlap bags for drowning sets , just wondering if it will riot over time. Planing a 3-5 mile canoe trap line and looking for light weight drowning ideas

Burlap will work but the beaver will shred them while struggling at the end of the drownder.
They will probably be shredded by the caught beaver sooner before they rot, though
I use the nylon weave sand bags that you can buy by the 25 count at most Hardware store. They come in white, green or black
.
I wouldn't put them out months in advance though.
Every time I've preset my drown-ding rigs, right before Beaver season starts to save time,
Some Lowlife, slinking cattail weasel steals my top anchor stake, my 9 gauge wire, and my MB-Crunchproof Drownder swivel I attach my trap to.

I haven't used the bags before but try filling milk jugs with sand then screw top on........or fill them with cement and make sure the handle is filled........1 for rats, mink, raccoon and use 2 for beaver/otter......just wire them together........just giving ideas

Nice idea I saw from a fellow trapper on here... Use a cable thru a 2 inch wide wood piece in the bottom of the bag. Leave a loop at the top like a cable stake and wire up.. Worked well for me.
