Finally trapped that woodchuck that has been thorn in my side for tree weeks.Tried the suggestions from every one with no avail. Thanks all for your advice, but it seems this Pesky Critter was just too smart. I ended up ordering the groundhog #3 formula from Rid a Critter.Having been dealing with them in the past I knew my order would be shipped and at my door in two days. Set out yesterday morning around 5 am to set three box traps with cabbage and the lure.went back at 7 pm and found him in a trap.

Why not a coni over his hole? Don't get caught transporting him..Read the regs..You can't move them...

tried coni over hole , the entrance was not in this yard, all holes were escape routes .even when the land owner would come to the door, the chuck ran under the fence even though it was right next to the holes. but I did set a coni then covered the hole with hardware cloth to keep domestics out . it sat untouched for two weeks. This was an NWCO job. Thought that was the reason for the license . to possess and transport wildlife. Unless I am missing something here ?

Good job! I have tried a great number of baits and attractants for woodchucks over the years. By far, cabbage ranks at the bottom of my list! I could never figure out who thought cabbage was a good bait for woodchucks! I may have missed it, but they love green beans, tomato plants, flowers of all types, but I have never heard of them eating cabbage! My favorite bait is fresh chopped apple! Baited cage goes as close to the travel route/hole as I can get it. What type of paste bait or lure to use in conjunction with the apple is individual preference.
**NOTE**Apple will not work very well in a yard that has an apple tree! No matter what time of year!

When I trapped a couple for my Dad a couple of years ago, they were eating his cabbage plants right to the ground.
