" They move these posts to hide My Pen,
But The Craig's List Bandit Strikes Again" !!!
The Turkeys gobbled furiously on the Roost this morning but then zipped shut their beaks upon hitting the ground, and un-simpathetically ignored walleyed and his Pitiful Calling Program.
Time for a change of plans, walleyed shifted to plan B and headed North by Northwest to The Jefferson County Township of Wilna, just north of Carthage and just south of Natural Bridge.
Answering a Craig's List ad that read: "Antique Barn Sale"; Including "Vintage Traps."
walleyed was the First Picker into the barnyard of Retired Trapper dick Howland.
The prizes layed out in all their Rusty Glory were 14 Square Frame VICTOR 330 Conibear, a Half dozen Blake and Lamb #4 Under-Springs, two Victor 220 Conibear, and two Oneida/Victor #14 Jumps with Teeth.
The Blake and Lamb #4's had half with full sized original pans and half that were cut down.
The Oneida/Victor 14's had fully readable pans and were in good shape.
dick and I Talked Turkey Hunting and Trapping as I examined Each Trap, but when he said $275.00 Firm Greenbacks for the whole lot, I quickly dropped the trap I was examining and moved away from the pile.
I then asked about other sporting equipment, trapping books, fur handling equipment, etc.
dick had a box full of "The Trapper" newspapers running from the late seventies until the early 1980's. ($10.00)
He had two fur-fish-game magazines, one from the 20's and one from 1948 for three bucks each.
I finally got back around to the traps while dick hovered around nearby and I pointed out that some of the 330 Conibear were in need of trigger jobs.
After a long, pregnant silence, I offered dick $150 for the 14 Conibear only, and he countered with $175.00. after another Long pause, I said I would give him $162.00 as my final offer.
dick snatched the bills from my outstretched hand "Like a Rattle Snake Striking."
I left the other traps, for another Picker who had called ahead and was told he better get there early as dick wasn't holding anything.
So for under $12.00 dollars each, I got some replacements for the 330's that were stolen this spring.
All were strong, un-pitted, and with good structural integrity, and all but a couple had complete Dogs, Safeties, and Triggers. The few with Trigger issues had a prong missing.
So I Went For a Nice Scenic Sunday Morning Drive, Talked some Trapping, and increased My STEEL HOLDINGS.
LIFE IS GOOD.
Stay Tuned.
