It is illegal to purposely set traps for snapping turtles in NYS.Yrou are however allowed to shoot them with a gun or bow, which I feel would be interesting From the DEC website - www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/31339.html Turtles The only turtle species for which there is an open hunting season are the snapping turtle and the diamondback terrapin. You may not harvest, take, or possess any other turtle species at any time. Snapping Turtle •A small game hunting license is required to take snapping turtles. The only legal implement for taking snapping turtles is a firearm or a bow. I don't know about crayfish

Catch did not mean trapping. I use a 22. You will have to do some exploring and find them in your area. Many ponds and lakes have a over abundance of them. Their tracks in shore mud can not be mistaken. It makes for a fun day and again great eating...

Well when the word catch appears in a trapping forum, I assumed it meant trapping. I apologize for the error.

Not a good idea to shoot a 22 at the water either.
