Just interested to see how many of you remove the old trap and place a clean new one after each catch at a location. I'm targeting fox and coons using just a few trap sites in a small area of my woods. I'm pleased with my catch of 10 fox, and 9 coons. When I catch a fox or coon, I usually re-set and re-bed the same trap, using fresh peat moss and a cover of fresh dirt from the site. Making sure to throw any blood away from the catch site with my shovel. I've never changed a trap unless it was damaged. I'm making repeat catches at the same sites. Of the animals caught, most were at two of my seven sets. The only scent precautions I'm using is a foam kneeling pad and working from an ATV to minimize my scent in the area. I've been applying fresh scent after rains or about every 7-10 days. Best set by far has been a piece of firewood set on end as a scent post with Nightowl fox gland lure rubbed on it. Without too much snow this season it's tough to see if I'm missing out by not changing traps. What are others doing?

I've never changed a trap after a catch until I've pulled it...I may add a new set, but never change the trap

Same trap.. I use different gloves/sifter/tools/kneeling pad for my remakes. It works. Clean set nearby. Flat sets or post sets are good.. Or a dirt hole with mild lure/bait.

I have always left the trap unless real bloody. I think the smell left by the trapped animal keeps them coming back and is a great suspicion remover. Kneeling pad is a great idea too. I use old burlap sacks with fox urine on them.

change the trap when rust is noticeable... otherwise it'll blend in just fine. Soon as surface rust gets obvious, swap it out.
