While grouse hunting I came across a hole that I think may be used by an Otter. I have included a picture of the hole and tracks (first time doing this so I hope they are attached). The hole is on a bank 30 feet from a 3 foot wide stream leading to an inactive beaver dam. It looks like it hung around for a few days and head back to a lake about 300 yds away. It has been 2 weeks and the tracks are back. When looking into the hole it looks like a large cavity that may lead to the stream. Otter season is open until April 7th in this area and I have never targeted otter. Can anyone tell me if this like it could be an otter and offer suggestiongs on how to set traps for it? Attachments:

I think you're right on the money. The muddy trails going in and out give it away for me. tryhiding a 160 in that hole in as far as it will go. or find out where he's coming out and blind set him there.

Thanks for the input. I also found a hole in the bank by the stream that it may be using. I will put in a couple of set and see what happens.

The pic showing the hole...to the left of the hole the tracks heading toward the beaver cut tree...those appear to be coon tracks to me...coon den in the ground more than some realize...just a thought.

Fence down the 3' creek and 330 it up. Find where the water is going through the old beaver dam and set a bodygrippers there, too. You also can set a foot trap on the bottom of the stream under the hole. Patience is the key when otter trapping.

I have seen coon tracks in the area and now that coon season is closed i better stay away from putting a 160 in the hole. There is a break in the dam about 70 yards down stream and I will set a couple 330's this afternoon. I will also set a foot trap under the hole in the stream. Thanks for the input. Hopefully I will have a pic to show before the season is over.
