I am getting ready to start beaver trapping and have a few good places to trap with a LOT of activity. Could i use a single 220 or try a foot hold. I am thinking about buyng some 330, but for now was wondering if a 220 would work. There are a few biggins in the bunch and i dont want to educate them by putting in bad sets. Thanks for any advice...i am gonna need it.

A dual spring #220 will miss almost all underwater beaver except for kits, and a single-spring #210 has nil chance of holding anything but rats or mink. In your case, mudpies with footholds are your only option until you get some #330s to work with

#2 sounds awful small for Beaver unless your targeting a front foot....Beaver got some big @ss feet !!

#2 victors and 220s aren't beaver traps. It is possible to catch a beaver in those traps, but most likely you will be giving the beaver a lesson in trapping. You want at least a 6inch jaw spread on the foot hold, 71/4 is better and 10x10 or better on the bodygrip.

My favorites for foot holds: #4 Victor and Blake and Lamb DLSs for front foot sets. Cant beat a MB-750 for the rear foot. Don't be afraid to put pan tension on those foot holds! 4-5 lbs on the #4s and 5-7 lbs on the 750s. Seems heavy yes, but beavers aren't signed up at Weight Watchers!! Cant beat 330s or MB 1216s for conis. But add a few 280s as well.. There, that should take care of you money for the next 10 years!

Single spring 220- NO #2- not a reliable beaver trap but would work for front feet on small-med. beaver but what you would end up doing is educating most of the beaver

Thanks guys for all the info. I ordered some Duke 330 magnums, and will get some #4 foothold asap.

Agree with the others. Get yourself three or four 330's and a few legholds and you can put a hurt on any colony. If on a budget the Duke #4's work well on front feet and can hold a back foot if he gets into it good. Get some drowners and know how to use them.

Sand bags too!! 11 ga wire for the sliders or cable.. Dang.. I gotta find more beavers!!!

My very first beaver ever was caught in a single spring 220, set for beaver. I was 11 years old. I could barely lug it home. I'll never forget that day. *I'm not recommending them for beavers at all. This was just a kit beaver, caught by accident.*

I am on a budget, and i am surprised my wife has not freaked out yet considering all the money i have spent on traps, dyes, wax, fur handling equipment, wooden stretchers, fleshing beam, tags, stands for conibears, baits and lures, chain,S hooks, wire, all the tools, and the bag to carry it in...not to mention all the gas. So if you guys were to buy three good traps that would last a long time would it be Duke? I bought 6 of the 330 duke magnums because they were said to be good conibears that last. If the leg holds are just as good i will get some , but if there is a better one for the long run that is what i need to buy. What do you guys suggest for all around price/quality?

I am not as seasoned as alot of these guys but Duke #4 coils have held all my beaver along with the Duke #330 magnums. Then you could filter in some MB 750's and MB 1216's.
