I own a few Zane. They NEED shock springs, before you set them for Coyotes. I had the jaws pulled right out of 2 of mine before I wised up and added a shock spring. Mine are #3 Monty's though, not #2's

If thats what you want then the price is fair at best. You can get new dukes at those prices. I wouldn't set any of the mentioned traps if they were free. If you must have some ,I have 2 #2 monty dogless FREE.

what you dont like the dogless. ill take any traps people don't want. i want to try the 1.5s on fox Zane, The 1.5 dogless are very difficult to tune so they will stay set as they have no reliable pan tension. They will fire off if the wind blows on your dirt pattern or worse. They fire if it rains, and wets down your dirt. They fire if a mouse farts nearby. You will be checking a lot of sprung trap. I bought 3 dozen when they first came out and sold them AT A LOSS mid season just to get rid of them. They can be modified using a carburator spring slipped on to the bolt that runs thru and under the pan so the pan tension is stiffer, but they still are quite unreliable. I gave woj seven or eight of them for free a couple years ago just to get rid of them. The # 2 or # 3 Dogless are very reliable but stay away from the 1.5's Trust me. Buy some 1.5 SJ or 1.5 RJ MONTY DOG ONS and you will love them. walleyed

I guess it would be fair to say I don't like dogless traps. PM me your address again Zane.I will send the 2 I have and you can set them and judge for yourself. I have baseplated and some other mods and still won't use them. I also sold all my KB and JAKE traps because I didn't care for dogless.

does anyone know the inside dementions of the #3 dogless? The Montgomery # 3's dimensions are not NYS legal as they are greater than 5 3/4" Jaw spread and need inside laminations in order to be made legal. walleyed

#3 Montanas are NY legal Zach. And you can get ANY Monty/Montana to fire at a consistent weight. I have done it and so has my dogless counterpart on here.. Granted, the 1.5s were a PAIN, but I got them to fire (1.5 lbs) and stay set. Once you do a few, you will get the hang of it.

They are true antiques. If you are in the trapping for the long haul, get the best you can afford. If I had it to do all over again and I was you age, Tim Caven would get a big order for 550's. I run mostly duke #3 with mods. I still have a few hundred monty + northwood 1 1/2's but they don't see much use now with all the coyotes around. I have ran jakes + KB and I didn't like them, so I sold them off, IMO the majority of the montgomery traps IN the #2 and bigger are junk if there are coyotes around, without LOTS of work to the trap. I am going to send you a mixed care package of traps, some coyote worthy and some NOT. With any luck the guys on this site can have you wackin + stackin K-9's next season like you did with rats and beaver this year.

The # 2 or # 3 Dogless are very reliable but stay away from the 1.5's walleyed Yes he did and I have been welding them open for use at NYSTA someday for a trap setting area for kids. About the only good thing about them. I bought 6 a couple years ago and caught my fingers in them 3 times, came to multiple sets where they were fired off sitting straight in the bed, and had 2 seperate occasions where a fox print was directly over the pan with nothing to show for it but a print. I too gave some away to Traps82 for free because I despise them so much.. but if you put 4 or 5 of them together, they might back a good mink drag.
