Artie LOL ;D thank you for the heads up now I will not waste my time in that area. Wayne was not thinking of moving in can not afford that on a produce manager salary lol. Have a guy that works for me who's brother owns a couple of places there and rents them out. Thought I might take a trapping vacation this year. Not sure if it is possible yet but thought i would start loking into it now just in case.

Yes i know it well there is no fur there to trap and no fish to catch .Kinda like Steuben co:) That area is infested with Fisher Cat, Otter, Beaver, and Mink. It is also infested with lots of trappers thinning them out each fall. Plenty of state land to trap to the north, east, and, west but accessing it can be a challenge. And Artie needs to sign off on it. LOL walleyed

Was told there is alot of state land there. Why is accessibility a problem. Wayne, Artie probably owns a couple of those $500K homes bought with his fur checks lol.

A lot of the old access roads and two tracks that snaked back in to the interior "Bush" have been blocked off, or gated, or posted with "No Motorized Vehicle" signage.
There is still plenty of Truck Trail access whereever it is still designated "Wild Forest" but the acreage designated "Forever Wild" is now open only to Shoe Leather, Bicycle, or Canoe/Kayak travel.
This is a continuing Challenge Not only in the Lowville to Booneville Black River Valley Drainage, but throughout the Adirondacks as well.
I believe Sir Mole Has Coined the proper language used to describe the current situation regarding NYS DEC Controlled Adirondack Acreage.

Artie has no problem with access to this area, his GOATS are not MOTORIZED ;D YES, But He may then be restricted to the OTTER CREEK Goat & Horse trail system and he may have to leave his goat cart home and throw his trusty saddle on his prized "Galloping Goat." walleyed

I wouldn't waste my time up there i have a camp on the #4 rd . I can access Brantingham from the Stillwater rd to the macarthy rd to the ten mile rd and it is all DEC state land rd to travel, at least 5 to six different local trappers work the whole area and out of state guys run it too. I ran into the president of PA trappers association last year, him and his daughter were hitting the area hard for a month before going back too PA too trap mink. If ya can secure private land up there your better off cause the state land gets hammered.

Well thanks guys for the info. Was not looking to incroach or step on any locals toes ya know. I just thought it may be an opportunity to trap some critters that I can not trap down here. Having a place to stay was a key part of this and was told about all the state land up there. So may have to rethink the idea.

i also have a camp up by there stoney lake. trapped it a couple of years ago , lots of compotition, i caught acouple of animals for the 4 days there , lots of coyotes up there & if you can get into some of those back places lots of beaver , most of that area is closed to atv use , but if you own a horse you could do a killing off the horse trails in otter creek area 5 miles from brantiham . good luck all you can do is take a drive & see if it is some thing you might want to try.

I've never trapped up there by my Father and Grandfather did...,used to be lots of Fisher there, but they've all moved down into the flat lands now.

My grandparents had a camp on the Stillwater Road, just around the corner of #4 Road. I miss the area and try to get up there every few years.
There's also Basket Factory Road off Stillwater road and Smith Road off #4 Road that allow a little access also (just a couple miles).
