How did it do this year?

Not so good.....Seems that it gets less and less each year...really sad because if every trapper that came to each fur sale would donate just 1 pelt, NYSTA could generate thousands of dollars each year with this program.

I was afraid of that. We try.

The past couple auctions ive sold fur at havnt had an obvious place to donate fur or anyone talking about it. It just seemed like you donate fur if you know about it and if you didnt all well. I think if it was more convenient it would help out. Just a thought

What auctions have you been to recently?

the herkimer auction last weekend and the one before that.. its just a thought... it just seems to me that it would be more successful if it was more convenient and advertised at the auction itself

for example having the pelt donation table before the fur check in table makes more sence to me... again that is just from my own experience and what i have seen

and also a bigger more organized table because last auction had pelts and papers and stuff falling off

The Herkimer auction has ALWAYS had a pelt donation table and I attended the last 2 auctions and even brought some pelts to donate. There is a big sign on the wall with donation table right below it?? I'd love to have someone volunteer to man a NYSTA table at these auctions but they are few and far between

Would someone please tell me what this pelt donation is for? I'm fairly new to this forum and just recently got back involved in trapping,so I have not heard of this and know nothing about it.

im a member of fulmont fur harvesters and i work those auctions so i will deffinitely keep that in mind for next year. i know theres a big sign and stuff but with all of the people and clutter it isnt really noticable right away so next year we will have to work on that

The program did well here at my house , we all sold our furs then threw cash on the table . I ran the pelt donation program @ GVTA for three years -------------its like pulling teeth or stealing our of someones pocket . I have no idea how they did this year ---- anyone know ?
There is a list of people who take furs in at their place for the program . As Tom Snare says ------------its a good time to be a trapper --------------nows the time to give something back !

when I donated my fur at the first Herkimer auction. It was not noticable as to where to donate,Though it was my first auction .Finally my wife asked a woman who was checking in fur at the table near the entrance .She brought us down to the end table where the place to donate was. After that it was clear to see where . I do agree though ti would make it easy to find if it was set up close to the entrance . As for volunteers, iwould be glad to if and when the time is ok for me . I wouldn't mind if someone had a bull horn for advertising it ....lol

Its very noticable how this thread is even being avoided. Pulling teeth. Rockinthe ocean, you did the one most important step, you went with the idea of doing something good and took that step to do it. Thank You.

Pehaps the biggest donation ever made to the program was made by a coon hunter.

20 posts to this thread is not really a dead thread judgng by the activity lately in the forum. I've volunteered in the past to take in and put up fur for the program but never had anyone take advantage of that. Actually saw very little talk/prompting of the program this year. Perhaps when an auction is announced on here the poster should also remind people to bring a fur to be donated to the program.
A NYSTA table at the auctions is the best idea. Nothing beats presence. Maybe get some new members? Shaming people who might stop by the forum won't get it done.

No need to promote the program, anyone who traps more then a year knows theres a state trapping associaiton. Any one who wanted to donate but did not find a table can just cut a check, think any one will. It's the same old problem.......... people making excuses that they did not know, yada, yada.... like I said, NYSTA takes cash as well.

Trappermac, Fur Harvesters' of Jefferson County (Mannsville) does promote the donation program. We have a table for donated fur, a table for NYSTA memberships. We display StheT's poster for donations and notify / remind trappers in the forum calendar for our auctions.
That said, the one thing I don't do is put the donation reminder in the notice of the upcoming auction sent to the trapper magazines. Which I will do for December's auction, however sometimes the magazines truncate some of the notice I send them so it may get cut out anyway.
You can't shame people into donating fur or joining NYSTA, that is something they will have to want to do. All we can do is put it out there and perhaps just a little reminder is all it takes.

When you donate pelts or cash, where does the money go. studies, trapper classes, Does it go to someone that is rasing fox, rats, beaver so they can be let go. I dont know? Im sure it goes to helping the cause. Just wondering?
