Thanks for taking the time to do this Rufus. I find the statistics to be be interesting. I wish more guys gave up the information as 36 seems like such a low number.

if your putting up squirrels i released a fox squirrel. it was actually caught in a fox set. should that be under gray fox then? thank you for putting all of these numbers up. it is nice to see what areas of the state put out numbers of all the different species.

if your putting up squirrels i released a fox squirrel. it was actually caught in a fox set. should that be under gray fox then? NAFA & FHA Fur Auctions buy all the RED SQUIRRELS you can send them. RED SQUIRRELS are an UNPROTECTED SPECIES of Mammal and may be harvested at any time, and by any means, and are LEGAL to possess and sell if trapped. Grey and Fox Squirrels are considered GAME animals which can only be hunted and thus, cannot be Trapped or even possessed, if incidentally Trapped. Since I sometimes catch a lot of RED SQUIRRELS, I put them all up and make use of their fur resource rather than let it go to waste. Putting them up only takes a couple minutes and you sometimes make up to a $1.50 each on the Little Buggers. I would imagine that Adirondack Marten and Fisher Trappers sometimes pile up a whole lot of these RED SQUIRRELS incidental to their target species. Utilizing ALL the Fur bearers we catch incidentally is GOOD for the Wild Fur Trade, The Fur Garment Industry, and is the ethical thing to do as Trappers. walleyed

There was a recent article in NAFA's magazine that indicated most are used for london fog rain coat liners.

Walleyed I was only makeing a joke about the squirrel I released going up into the numbers. I know red squirrel are a nuisance animal but didn't know they were also usable in the fur trade. That's an interesting bit of information.
