I spent about four hours watching the Fur Buyers bidding on Trappers fur at the VFW in Herkimer today.
As usual, Prime, very well handled fur in good condition sold for very good prices again today.
Junk that was mishandled and tried to be passed off as fur was declared of "NO VALUE" and received no bids, or just a fraction of the fair market value of well handled pelts.
It was amazing to see some of the pelts that people brought in. I would be too embarrassed to say it was my work, or that I allowed valuable fur to end up in that condition.
On the other hand, many strings of pelts were handled TOP NOTCH and exemplified QUALITY workmanship.
The prices were very good for most items.
Muskrats in particular continued to bring great money for the well handled larger sizes.
Most larger prime, well handled, fresh male mink brought from from $20.00 to $25.00 dollars and even as high as $30.00.
It was a great sale from my perspective. I left when they were still going at it and were about halfway thru the lots and It may yet still be going on.

YUP!!! I was amazed also . I was at the auction from 6am til 6pm. Some of the junk people brought in was horrible. 1 fur actually stunk of being rancid. Tails were not fleshed or split. Front legs left too long and rotted. A lot of bad fleshing jobs. A few coyotes were made no sale without even going to bid. Then again I saw some of the best fur I seen in years. 1 young man had some real nice coon and fox and it brought top dollar. I told him twice how nice a job he did. All and all as usual it was a good time. Food was excellent especially the chili. It was still going on when I left and Mr Gebo was having another piece of of celery. Great work men and ladies who worked the auction. It was a long one. Prices were still very good. Saw a 109. fisher and some 60.beaver
