For some dumb reason they would not insure my rats, I will never use them again. They claim there is no way to prove what they are worth because there is no bill of sale.

I told them that, they told me there is no way to put a value on it. The people at the counter were just plain miserable...even more than I am.

I told them that, they told me there is no way to put a value on it. Are you trying to ship all 150-some rats out to the Fur auction Depot or Groney and trying to put an overall value on all of them based on current Market prices ? If so, That's probably why they are balking. They don't believe "rats" have that kind of value, or they Don't believe you really have 150-some rats in your parcel. walleyed

You can't insure raw fur.

I have insured my raw fur for the last three years sending it USPS. I have never had any problem, as a matter of fact they ask me if I want to insure it and for how much. The friendly lady at the post office knows what it is and even is interested in them.

Walleye, only sent 71, I have a private buyer that I sold 112 frozen rats to. They should at least insure it for what you want them to, they charge for it. Later if something does happen to the package they can dispute it.

What do they care, and what's it to them? Their job is to not lose your package in the first place. If you want to insure it for $10,000 they'll gladly take your payment for premium. I sent nearly 100 spring rats out last week myself, insured for $1,000 and wrote on the box "raws furs" while the postmaster here in my town discussed the contents with me. If something had happened to that package and the post office balked at paying the insurance claim, I'd take it to small claims court filed right here in town. They ask me what the contents are for every package I ever send. The only time I was ever denied coverage was when sending silver coins in trade for traps. Money cannot be insured... other than that, I've never had a problem with USPS and furs.

I still have an unpaid claim with Fedex from two years ago... sent from me thru a friend who worked for Fedex at the time. Package of 12 #4 dukes sent out-of-state, evaporated somewhere in between and last I've ever seen since then.
