I have used drags for coyotes. Not preferred, but I do use them. 95% of my coon/mink traps are on a drag. The mink go to the bottom and the coons get tangled up near by. It is a very easy way for me to set up. I use a heavy chain that is about 6 feet long. Some have more, some have less. Works well and I do not have to go searching for any coons. IF otters are present... I stake SOLID!!

My thought on adding the tit to push the hook down is good but the chain can hang up my thought is to fill the hollow pipe which would hold the point to the ground or make the tit from something round like nature does so the chain could slide off whatever you settle on would be interested in using them-----a longer pipe would help maybe push the weight to 3 lbs---------Tom

Probably not as pretty, but why couldnt you use a big nut instead of the tit to lessen the chance of chain hook up. Or just a square billet of steel..........would add weight as well.

Design change....two staples perpendicular to each other on each end Shouldn't catch the chain, raises frame off the ground, very strong using two, smooth outside, 1 1/4" high This will be the smaller of the two drags Sized for fox, coon, mink, etc Working on a larger size for yotes and cats with Zags....I better call him and tell him ! LOL

Looks good Tom. I'd put 10' of chain on that thing and put it right to work on the coyotes.
