sucks when check your beaver traps & you have snappers in most of them & check your 110s & they have either painted , or snappers in them im averaging 15 turtles a day , leaving traps in till sunday as have to get some nuisance beaver out , what a fun next 3 days should bring will probably end season with 50 snappers ,75 painted all released & ive probably emptied my britches 5 times with those big water snakes giong between my legs.

I caught my first ever snapping turtle in a 330 on Tuesday. That was not fun in releasing it, I will tell you that.

I haven't caught any turtles yet (been using mostly footholds). However I have seen them crossing the road and I almost stepped on a painted today.
However I have had leeches swimming around my hands while bedding traps. So far none have latched onto me.

when it comes to leeches... I have never seen anything like that in my life before when trapping the Black Lake region last week.
Every muskrat caught, dead or alive in a trap had six to thirty leeches feeding on it. Not those tiny little black ones we have down here in my area... I'm talking two - three inch specimens with multi-colors. If someone wanted to gather them for fishing bait, any piece of meat or fish in a bottle - can in any weedy creek there would be filled. I can see where someone could literally catch thousands of leeches per day if they were legal to market for fishing bait.
Unbelievable numbers of leeches in those creeks and flows up north. I would hate to wade around in there with any cuts on my legs, that's for sure!

I'm seriously grossed out by leeches. Last weekend, I caught a rat on a log set. The rat, after being caught naturally wound himself up in the weeds. When I removed the rat from the trap, a big fat UGLY leech, dropped out of the weeds and into the bottom of my canoe. I made 2 or 3 quick efforts to grab it up and throw it overboard. I kept losing my nerve and dropping it back into the canoe. My 4 yr. old grandson piped up and said "What's that papa"? "Just a worm", I replied. "Why don't you do me a favor, and grab that thing and throw it overboard"? Without hesitation my little trapping partner, grabbed the leech and promptly deposited it into the water. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! He's only 4 and he doesn't know enough to be scared of them. It was perfect! I gave him a "high 5" for it.

so we as trappers go into thw woods ,and streams. where all these creatures live , from bears to snakes , leeches and such . scaring the day lights out of most of us ....thats funny .The only thing out there that worries me is another person. Never know what they are up to ,and all carry the most dangerous weapon, some of which don't know how to use it ..... the brain.....

I'm seriously grossed out by leeches. you might want to avoid the whole Black Lake area during warm weather... from throat to tail I can see at least eight - ten leeches on this rat from last week... and when I spun him over, there were a whole lot more wreathing around below. Attachments:
