Well,
It's 11:03 AM and I didn't have any more blood for these MARCH MOSQUITOES that are buzzing about drawing blood samples.
NO customers came down the road to shop for traps from 6:30pm until 10:45pm so we called it a night and parked NEW WAVE DAVE's Pickup beside the culvert as a blocking vehicle.
As a funny side note, around 7:00pm, as I was listening to the cacophony of Bull Frogs, spring peepers, turtles, mosquitoes, geese, wood ducks, mallards, Gobbling turkeys, etc. I kept thinking I was hearing a beaver slapping his tail down by the culvert I was watching.
It went on for half an hour. Convinced myself I was hearing things.
When we pulled out for the night, we took a peek at the culvert and there was a nice Xtra-Dark Large medium beaver pole-axed behind the ears in our 330 Duke "BAIT TRAP".
So our stakeout produced a customer after all. we reset the "BAIT TRAP" and we hope to have the other tail slapper WHACKED by morning.
STAY TUNED !!

Like i said before....trail cam By all means, bring your trail Cams up and put them out on the line. I, for one, can't afford those kind of gadgets, widgets, and gizmos. It seems like the latest trap shoppers showed up right after someone mentioned "JEFFERSON PARK". I think I'll stick to my comfortable length of straight grained ASH LUMBER. edited for content

I know that trap thieves aren't what we enjoy about trapping and I'm sure some of the comments were meant to be funny....BUT, there are a lot of young people on here and I don't think that's it's showing good mentoring by advocating violence in any way, so please, let's not continue with those type comments on the Forum.

Received a call this afternoon from the local Environmental Conservation Officer who was at the trap site to install a Hidden camera setup at the Culvert trap site.
He was calling to inform me that our traps we reset had once again been stolen. so between 3:00pm and 5:30pm today, somebody had slipped in and made off with DUKE 330 #4 and DUKE 330 #5.
I would have been there on stakeout but I had muskrats to skin before they spoiled in today's warm weather and fur to take off boards to get ready to ship to NAFA this Sunday
I met up with the ECO at the trap site and he installed the camera, and I then reset more 330's (#6 and #7).
Now we will wait to see if we get some photos of the right persons doing the wrong things.
I just returned from watching the SU Basketball Game in Syracuse (10:30pm), and decided to make a driveby, and met the (ECO) on patrol coming off the dead end road after making the same driveby.
He announced the traps were still in place, and the camera was still operational and taking pictures.
Stay tuned.

I am happy to see the DEC involved.... But really... If these people (person) get caught... With this be posted on a public forum... It proves my theory that no matter HOW MUCH we spend on public education... It will never work....

Hope the thieves don't read the post about the trail cam.
Good luck. Hope the judge makes them regret messing with your traps/

In the past ,1976 I caught a young man takeing every trap I had from the local swamp, Back in those days young boys could fight without repercutions,The young man was so scared of what i was going to do to him that he started out into the water. All of my traps and another guys traps were all recovered. I eventually had my fun,and still turned him over to en-con.I have gained a reputation of someone NOT to steal from. Works for me.

I haven't paid you for those Helfrichs yet, so right now I am stealing from you.
You wanna fight? LOL
All the traps theives I have caught have been farm hands/hired men.
And in each case, the owner of the farm gave them enough of a butt chewing that there was no need to go further.
I lost two Jakes this year to theives........painful yes, but part of the biz, I guess.
Private land canine trapping probably exposes me far less than public road water trapping.
I hate trapping roadside culverts. I can pull over to set....not a car in site. Grab traps/equipment........jump in creek......and then a funeral procession comes right on by!
Back during the BOOM, I remember a writer suggesting (in an effort to fool driver's by) that you grab a big roll of toiler paper and have it in one hand, suggesting you are pulled over to drop a chalupa!
Can you imagine what that nice, new, neat roll of white toilet paper would look like at the end of the day?
"Man, that poor trapper has waders on and has to drop a deuce in the creek?"
Never tried it............
