If you're concerned about theft you can clean the oil off and spray paint them

I dye and wax all my traps, just because my grandfather and father did, and I always have, probably always will. But spray paint is good enough I suppose.

I dyed all my foot holds and waxed them , my 110s I dyed a few and spray painted a few . found the spray painted ones able to with stand rust a bit longer. then again being a painter I did use some expensive paint.Just limited on time to get these out ,more concerned with the beaver being spooked then theft.

Just like dirt trapping, not likely the beaver will see the trap but Johnny Sneak'um will if it's a shiny new trap....

I prefer dye for footholds, but I do paint my conibears.
I notice that Suffolk doesn't have a beaver season, so I guess you're going north of NYC. But just curious, are there any beaver on LI? I grew up down there and don't remember seeing any, but it seems that many species are coming back throughout New York State.
