I got an itch to go fishing today, so I when to a local beaver pond for a while. While I was there, a beaver was swimming around periodically slapping the water hard and load with his tale. Why do they do this? It seems like it would give away their location to possible predators.

Slapping tail equals danger sign, doesnt help the fishing much either.
