trapperronnie, I have never sold any furs at auction before .I have always sold to a local buyer. What are the pro's and con's of selling at auction?

The pros are: 1. You get to see the value of other fur so you can better what your fur is worth. 2. More markets are represented so if one buyer doesn't have a market for certain fur another might. 3. Generally no charge if you decide not to sell and then you can go to your usual fur buyer or come to another auction. 4. It's a good chance to meet and greet other trappers and swap stories. Cons: 1. Usually a commission if you sell. At GVTA in Honeoye it's 5% which goes to the Club to fund expenses. 2. If only a few buyers, prices may not be best but if you don't like you buy back. 3. Takes more time and possibly more travel. Depending on auction setup you have to weight until your fur is sold. At GVTA it's first signed in first sold. At the big auction in February (1200+ lots) it took all most 12 hours to sell all the fur. Hope this is of help.

Trapperronnie, Thanks for the information. If you are having any other auctions this year I would be interested in knowing about them. Is it possible to attend without selling any furs? Would be nice to see how the process works.

Pockets, where do you live? There is an auction in Little Falls this Saturday and one in Mannsville next Saturday.

Was at the Feb auction, first time I took fur to auction, got much higher average on beaver, fox, and rats than got at country buyer, coon and mink just slightly better average, 5 percent isnt much when you get nearly twice as much for your fur.
