Hi all- This is my first post on the new board. I've got a question for you all that I hope doesn't get mis-construed as commercial. If so please feel free to delete it. I run an outdoor education school in the Old Forge, NY area that currently offers instruction in paddlesports, fly-fishing, wilderness first aid and survival skills. It is my intention to include all outdoor activities including trapping and hunting (against the advice of some...). I'm looking at bringing in a well known trapping instructor to do a group class, limited to 10 students who will then be available for private instruction after the group class. My question is 2 part: Is there anyone in particular that you think would be a better instructor? What species do you think would be more popular topics?
Even though I participate in and make my living off non-consumptive sports, trapping is probably my first love and I'm trying to get it some positive press. By the way, if you ever need a location for a trapper trainer class my door is always open! Thanks in advance for any replies!

Welcome to the forum!! This forum was created to educate and spread trapping throughout NY so your post is right in line with the ideals we all share. I would ave to say that the most popular species would be K-9's or mink, that seems to be where most people have the most interest. Being the 'Dacks, a fisher/ marten demo might spark some interest as well. Once agian welocme and I hope to see you at the Rondy in June!!

Unfortunately I don't get anytime off in the summer so I miss the rondy. I do usually get to the show in Frankfurt. Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking that k9's would draw folks from everywhere, especially if the instructor had woodland experience instead of just farmland.

I have had this same idea in the back of my mind for some time now. Although not a well know trapper I do have over 35 years experience and have run a longline a time or two. I would love to help you out in anyway I can.
