just returned from the fur buyer who may or may not have "taken me". up until a few weeks ago i had never even touched a muskrat on the cob. with that being said I recieved $5 for one and $.50 ea for the other 3 All of them seemed to be of the same caliber rat until they were stretched. he said if they were belly damaged they'd have been 2.50 ea. but the "back damage" brought them down to .50 ea. i realize rats bite come ice out but these were 1 hole per hide about the size of half a dime on their backs. does this sound right, just curious

If it was just one hole in my opinion I would find a new fur buyer. It's hard without seeing the pelts, but I have sold 'rats with holes in the belly with no reduction and certainly not only 1/10 for a hole on the back on many occasions

Both the back and belly have different uses in the fur trade and have value. Bite holes in the flanks should at most down size the fur. With the prices we've seen this year, I doubt a small hole made those into 50 centers.
Now if the furbuyer has been around for a while then there could be more to it than what he told you. Furbuyers usually don't rip people off. Those that try don't get much fur offered to them.

Some of the larger sizes of slights (slightly damaged rats) were averaging over 4 dollars at the last auction at North Bay.

My 2 cents for what ever it will bring. The D--D at F.H.A. avg. over $5.00 D---D is bad damaged. I would say look around before you sell.

Ed: Sure looks like you were struck by the Rat punching blue heron. The herons pull the guts out of there victums. To bad there is not a season on herons. Id gladly give 2 to 5 weeks shooting them. Cant think of a good reason why the lord put them on the earth, maby to upset me.
