The tread about the 48 hour tends begs the question of how many trappers ever go to Albany on the annual Sportsmen’s March. I know people are busy, but it just seems odd to me that I see so few trappers there. I saw only one representative from the New York State Trapper’s Association, the Region 6 Director. Of course there could be others that were there that I didn’t see or I don’t know. Oswego County had four there, mostly officers and past officers.
Did anyone else go? Anyone interested in going next year, or setting up a time where trappers go this session? Is there something we should work on as an idea for legislation? Trap tag id numbers, youth mentoring for young trappers, 48 hour tends? I would not personally put much effort into the 48hr tends, because I just don’t see it happening, but that doesn’t mean others could pursue it. What do you guys think?

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one, Redknot. There are many things that could be said that we as trappers should have and although talking amonst ourselves gets them out in the open, a good offence aimed towards those that really can change things, IMO is the way to go. With that said, we in New York have a great defence and the wrong words being said could make that job a lot harder. I would like to see snares in NY and I think the coyote and the fact that so many other states have this tool might just make this a reality in short order.
