Has anyone heard about this? I was told that trapping was banned in Suffolk County. Can they do this?

No there is no trapping ban in Suffolk Co. I saw on WNBC in NYC that a coalition of Suffolk co politicians made a resolution to try and push the new bill that was introduced in Albany. to let counties to ban trapping. So don't worry I have been on it from the start. They cant ban trapping on there own. only on county owned property which is unlikely. Towns can ban trapping on town owned land. Feel free to call me any time. Dave

Hi Trapperz, I just got off the phone with some guys in Suffolk County. Suffolk Co. DID NOT ban trapping on county owned land. It was just a resolution to support the new bills in Albany. I keep in contact with several trappers on Long Island. We are getting plans together to counter attack this problem. There will be a lot of discussion at the BOD meeting on, Sunday 3/26, at the Herkimer Co. fair grounds in Frankfort. I urge anyone with concern to attend.
Hope to see you there.
Dave

There was 5 members of our county trapping association that went to Albany Tuesday,3/14 and our county federation with the sportsman march. We spoke to our assembly members and state senators on these and other bills pending. We also spoke to downstate assembly people and left feeling we made inroads with some, and some not. It's very important that we voice our opinons on the issues that affect us as sportsman and trappers. A1835, an act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to municipalities regulating the use of traps. A9831 and S6669, Regulates the use of body-gripping traps and requires the posting of public land where trapping is permitted. These are the bills out there at the present time that i know of. Let your voice be heard. Andy

Andy, Thank you and to the other members that went to Albany this year. Once again I wasn't able to attend due to my job but I'm glad to see that at leasta few NY Trappers showed up.
