Now that my partner and I have taken a break for a couple of weeks, I have had some time to reflect back. One of the specific matters that keep jumping into the old gray cells is 3 legged coyotes. For about the last 10 years we have been catching them (2 this year) Never cought any before. ( We dont put out many coyote traps------6 stops this year). I thought if we were noticeing this with only a few traps in the ground----I thought maby others in the state saw the same thing. Has anyone noticed this? Has anyone a theory? ? ANY ideas or comments?

IMO,I would think that the big insurgance of people trying to hunt coyote's.Maybe people taking pop shots at them ...For me it has gotten to the point were I pick up a baker's dozen every year now where people have just shot them and dumped them .So I can figure a few probally have been wounded while running or such.. My 2-cents.. J

we caught a three legged snarly old female this year.. (reminded me of she wolf)... belive it was from being hit by a car or shot.......... too high up, wouldnt call it pegged in a trapping sence of the word.........catch one or two every year that are missing a toe or two... pegged paw... but not really a true peg leg.........jim

just a side note, but catch some over the years (not often) with leg joints that seem fused, they injured or broke the leg joint.....favored it... and it never healed properly.... the one this year was a pain to skin an inch to.... two inch patch of scar tissue that seemed to want to kling tight to the joint on the hind leg, figured that came from a car also, but who knows....jim

My first year land trapping I caught a three legged coyote. When I shined the spot light from the road I saw one glowing eye. When I skinned the yote, the whole rt side was peppered with bird shot and blind in one eye. That was my only one. The stump was all healed over. Tuff animals, quite rugged. Dave

Jim: I dont know what to think!!!! The toes I am sure were lost to traps. The missing legs and leg parts I dont know, some were probably from gun shots--cars---trucks---traps or fighting among each other---Iam only guessing. Thats the reason for the post, I wanted to see what others thought. I think its time I had a talk with your wife, IT'S time she threw the news paper away and got a large stick. Please tell your daughter the card is on its way.... PLEASE STOP EATING THAT LURE. LOL

we had a house cat at eds that loved that thin light colored shoulder muscle on fresh peeled coyotes, wouldnt eat any other part. when the truck would roll in she would come running and stick around until the skinning was done. they say you are what you eat.....right bill....but I never did hear that cat howl or yip .........jim heard she wolf was busy running around making scent mounds at the flows.........dave needs to tell her she needs to use castor ;D ....jim
