Schenectady Gazette-march 6,2006 article"Dogs Death Sparks Debate Over Trapping".Opponents maintain the activitiy has no place within suburbia. This article appeared in the local newspaper and was about the Gail Murphy/dog death incident in the south hampton area. For those ny trappers who think this incident will not affect trapping in their area, think again. It's quite clear from the article that bodygrip traps and trapping in general are on the chopping block in ny.This incident is not going to go away and looks like the new battlecry for the antis in this state that want to see trapping banned completely. Why else would they list the states that have banned or severely restricted trapping and then add that the bans were enacted through ballot initiatives. If your not a member of the national or state trappers associations, now would be a good time to join.Voicing your opinions to your local congressmen would also be a good idea.If you sit back and bury your head in the sand and hope this will pass you may be in for a real shocker. The next time you go to buy your trapping license you may find it isn't an option as there isn't a trapping season in ny any longer. If you can't hear the alarm bells sounding for trapping in ny now,you better start making arrangements with the local scrap yard to buy your traps for recyclables because thats all they will be good for.
