Well for me I target the hind feet and what i use is number 5 coils and longs, and also #4 jumps and longs.. I target the hind feet because they are stronger and have less tendancy to twist off..

It depends entirely on the situation. Mainly ;How much water do I have to work with. The slope of the bank. You can drown a beaver in 3 to four feet of water if you set for a front foot where as a backfoot in shallow water and you will have a problem. as far as right or left I never think of it. again the set will dictate where I will place the trap. Its just something that you will have to decide at each location. Ed

Hatch: I compleatly agree with ED. I use only 5's for foot holds.

When I can, I like to use a # 4 Victor dls for a rear foot catch. I probably don't need to mention this, but remember that not all traps measure the same. The biggest you can use for a rear foot catch is generally the best.

In open water I generally go for a hind foot in a 4 coil, but under the ice I hang a #4 underspring on a baited pole and aim for both front feet...
