Anyone in Oneida & Madison County interested in having an Organization again since the Upper Mohawk Valley Trappers Association seems to be dead? We could hold meeting every other month or once a quarter until we get started and move to every month if we have enough interest. I don't want to change the world here but I think this area needs an organization and I sure did miss the fur sale just down the road this year. Let me know, we need to have enough interest so we can become affiliated with NYSTA, and that requires a minimum of 10 NYSTA memberships. You don't have to live in either county to join, so let's see if there is enough interest to get this going!

St. Lawrence Co. Trappers Association would like to see some renewed interest as well. It seems that only the officers and some directors show up for the meetings, with a couple others attending once in a while. We appreciate the support we get from members and others regarding the annual dinner, but we could use more help from the membership for raffle ticket sales, auction donations, or just input at some of the meetings. The same few people are doing all the work every year and, without new member involvement, will eventually bring hardship to the association due to lack of participation.

42 page views and no comments? This would really help out the Summer Rondy if we had some Organizational backing for insurance purposes, such as Oswego County TA does with NYSTA and an insurance rider. If no body is interested that fine, I'll plod along.

Will start getting you names this week and get them to you. You can start with Bob and George right off. Thanks Pat

Wayne, I'll help. Jefferson Co. has membership problems as well . but along with Oswego Co. we still have our sale and barely keep our heads up above water but we are still in there trying. Anti-trap bills have become so common and so far we have had a good lobbying effort by our state lobbist and enough of us write letters and go to Albany and have decent relationships with our Assembly and Senate people that we have kept trapping pretty much a doable. We have allot more trappers in the field than we have in County or State organizations. A very few are carrying the load for the whole state and I am in favor of anything that promotes and works to keep trapping alive. I see mostly the same people doing all the work all the time. Somehow we need to increase the membership in every county. Let me know if I can be of help. Tommy

I understand that time is a big factor and I know how valuable time is. I'm not looking for 100 memebrs here, just a good core of 10-20 that will be able to do the things neded to keep an Organization afloat. I organized the Summer Fur Rondy pretty much with the help of 2 people so I know what is ahead. I can't say I'd be able to make every meeting and every event myself but it sure would make it a lot easier if the Rondy had a backing of an Organization.

Wayne, I'd join your organization, I'm a member of NYSTA, Nta, etc. I would support you however I could. Our Oswego county trappers association are fortunatate that we have a core group of 20-25 active members, I understand that people can't support every function with work, home and family, because I can't. We have some folks that work the booths at the county fair, fish hatchery, conservation days, highway pick up, scouting events, and our rondy and we all seem to compliment each other in our support of trapping and our organization. We just had a few new life members join who are young and I know them personally, who will also support our functions. No one person can do it all, but as a group, people help where they can and that's all we can ask for. I think it's a great idea! :)Andy

We have had almost 300 page views with little or no real discussion here. I am going to open this up to Herkimer County as well! I am trying to set up an informational meeting within the next couple of weeks in New Hartford for anyone interested. I really need some support here from trappers within these counties to make this work as I can't do it all. Thank you to everyone that has pledged support and help so far!More information will follow shortly once I get a day and time

Have had some responses saying the time and day of the informational meeting are bad because of the Daytona 500. Well all I can say is SORRY! Suck it up and if you really are a trapper and want to promote trapping not auto racing please show up, if not , don't piss and moan when we don't have a local fur sale or other representattion within NYSTA. Since I work 10-14 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, and since nobody else wanted to take the initiative to set this up since the last orginazation faded out, this is the day and time for the meeting, like it or not. Once we sit down and talk we can decide on a day and time that may work better for some but whatever day and time it is nobody will be 100% satisfied. nuff said, hope to see you there.....Wayne

I'd like to thank Stephen Jones, Doug Pelton, Eric Centro and Bill Ballou who gave a d@mn and showed up for the informational meeting trying to get a local organization going again here in the Mohawk Valley. I am very disappointed that from the number of trappers in Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties that were could only manage 5 people While some had made mention of the Daytona 500 today, it didn't even start until 2:30. I can not and will not continue to put forth an effort to further a local organization without more support from other trappers in the area I can understand that people are busy and have other agenda's but there will NEVER be a perfect time for everyone, will there. I will attempt to get this going again one more time and then if still no interest I will shut up and save my energy for other projects. The trap raffle (330 coni) took in $15 and was won by Bill Ballou who donated the trap back, thank you Bill I'm open to ideas, either here in public or in private by PM but I am really disappointed that only a few could make the effort to promote trapping locally here in CNY.

You will find this to be true in most aspects of life. We certainly have seen it in the trapping fraternity before.
A little wisdom; If it's worth doing it's worth doing right. One person can make a difference. And as with this site, build it and they will come.
Can you imagine John Adams frustration when he wanted to start a nation? Many were not willing to do anything about it, but complain about the situation they were faced with. He persevered and here we are.

I'm new to this site but have been trapping for 23 years in ny.I think a majority of trappers in this state are just plain lazy and don't want to get involved in a club or group. Why should they pay member dues to get into a group when they know there are a few diehards out there that will toot the horn and fend off the attack of the anti trapping laws that are always popping up.Yes,i belong to these groups and if your offended by what i said you must be guilty of what i said.Trappers are not going to get off their lazy butts until the day before a total trapping ban takes place and then it will be too late and they deserve what they get!

I just found your site and I am interested in your new organization. I am the past president and one of the past founders of the Mohawk Valley Fur Harvesters. Are you going to have another meeting? If so when and where because I would like to attend. I am still very active in trapping and feel an organization could be started up again with good attendance. I know many trappers who are seeking a strong organization to join. I look forward to further communication with you.

I have tried to see if anyone is interested in reviving the UMVFH or start a new organization with little feedback from local trappers. I have had a good response from the Osego County Trappers who said that they would join but that isn't the answer, we need local trappers that are willing to support an organization and I have to believe that unless more step up it is a dead issue. If there are others on here in Oneida, Herkimer & Madison counties hat would like to get togther and talk trapping let me know!
