Hey guys, looking for some ideas on how to keep my predator traps from freezin, used dry dirt this season and after changing it every other day, well lets just say I used half the dirt in the county up and many many hours that I should have been making new sets, any ideas appreciated thanks

I have been using a 50/50 mix of propylene glycol and water and spraying it liberally on my sets with good results.

I used peat moss exclusively this past season, even for dry coon and mink sets. This season started off wet, and I would have been re-making sets on an hourly basis if I hadn't. It's a trickier to bed a trap in but it won't absorb water easily and is cheap and light to carry. Just pre-sift it before you use it, and sprinkle a little dirt from the set area over the pattern to blend it in. I also like waxed dirt, but the wax is expensive, though it is easier to bed a trap in it. For anti-freeze I've used the non-toxic RV anti freeze and I don't dilute it. It's cheap and it's odorless from what I can see. I apply it with a spray bottle. I have used salt and calcium, but they will rust your traps, so I don't like them as anti-freeze.

i use a little bit of non-idonized salt works great, just sprinkle it over the trap and then a little on the top will keep dry until it hits 10 dergrees or lower. hatch
