I figured I would drop a hint that got me two top lot certifacates at FHA for grey fox and fisher. Pryor to skinning I bathed them using dog detergent then brushed them. dryed them as good as i could with a towel and hung them with a fan blowing on them and then brushed them again. the end result was a fuller looking pelt with a good luster that brought out the colors of the fur

some people do not have the time, i comb all my fur before skinning then in freezer till have time to put up. let thaw, check for ticks or cockle burrs comb out again before fleshing, flesh, then a 3 bucket wash , 1 bucket baby shampoo watermellon scented, & baby hair detangler,#2 lemon scented ajax to cut grease , then the rinse bucket clean water . then fan till fur is dry then put up the fur. this makes the fur i sell look very clean & shinny. wish i had a tumbler to help , next year after the new shed.

I wash after I skin. I get blood on the fur on occassion and like to wash it out. When my children were born, everyone seemed to think we need baby shampoo I have a large supply of that around out house and that's what my K9's get washed in.
I got a tumbler in the works Coop. Might be able to hook you up.

i throw it in if i'm going to put the animals up then. but if you freeze the animals for a couple weeks or months, the fleas & ticks die of the cold, no bugs to bother with.also spray the animals down with raid, flea & tick spray if going to hang for a while before skinning to kill the bugs on them. woj sounds cool cant wait till next year then i can get a shed so i can put a dryer in it for that purpose.
