Hello Folks, Going to try and catch a few critters this upcoming season. For coon, I got a couple of DP's that I want to try. This morning, I was in the local grocery store picking up mini-marshmallows and canned cat food (bait) when I spied the store brand of spray-able cheese wiz. A light went on in my head! How about spraying that into the bottom of the DP's and topping it with the marshmallows??? Needless to say a can of that found it's way into my cart. Think it might work? Thanks

You'll never know unless you try...might be hard to clean out the cheese at the end of the season though ;D

I would think it may not hold up during wet weather but neither do marshmallows. Personally I like a pellet bait with lure/bait and marshmallows for eye appeal.

I'd say skip the cheese. Try it, might be the next great thing, but it'll be a mess. The marshmallows should be enough.

Hmmmmm...50% -50% .... I thought about the clean-up before hand. Car wash may handle that. Hadn't thought about the wet weather and how it would hold up though. My primary reasoning for trying the cheese was that the coon would have to dig it out of the bottom of the trap and would be more likely to trigger it trying to get all of it out. I'll definitely let you know if it works. Thanks

Peanut butter and/or jelly would work the same...plus you'd have lunch

If you use the cat food, make sure their aren't that many cats in ur area or u might catch one.

I use cotton balls. Dip them in the bait of choice and stuff in.. Or a cotton ball in there with fish oil.. I think that helps to fire the trap.. Claw gets in the ball and they pull. I put in enough so the trigger is pushing in to the ball. Works for me.

I've pretty much only used marshmellows and haven't had a problem with the trap firing. . . yet. I also tried some dog food mixed with bacon greese that worked well this year. Think the whole key is to use the bigger marshmellows though. I can see where occasionally the trap could be pulled from the ground and the "ingredients" spilling out if your bait is too small. Gotta love the ease and the catch rate of the DP's !
