When ice fishing, how often do you jig your bait? Weakly every so often, or a lot of motion often?

Depends what mood the fish are in. I've seen where they wouldn't hit it unless it was constantly moving and then again, I've fished where you just had to barely move the jog to entice them to hit.

It's a flasher unit, or more simply, a fish finder. You can actually see your bait and the fish. It's really cool to watch the fish take the bait right before your eyes even if it's not decernable by feel. Works great on perch that are being really finicky.

I do a lot of jigging for perch and I use short lifts of no more than a foot off of the bottom with frequent rests in between.Sometimes they will nail it on the way down, but more often I have better luck when I barely twitch the jig and let it rest. Frequently I find that the larger fish hit so softly that you barely know they are there. It pays to learn where the grass beds are, because year after year the fish return to them. I prefer the Hali jigs tipped with a live grub or two. I find that the bait must be alive and giving some movement. Sometimes you can catch them just as quick as you can get down there, but at some time the school might move and you have to move as well. Unfortunately this year there is little to no ice and I've heard of several people falling through out in the Finger Lakes area. Lake george has no iceon the main lake, very thin ice on the bays. LOL

Today I got 10 perch on Oneida. They went nuts when i would jiggle the lure. Just lifting they weren't really interested. I don't know if i could fish again without the Vexilar, lol.

Perch were between 9-13 and there was 4-6 inches of solid ice. I went out again today and caught 3 perch and 1 undersized walleye. My buddy pulled a 18 inch eye. They are running sleds and 4 wheelers out there.
