Hi guys. I am new to trapping and have never been to an auction. I have a coyote I trapped last season that I skinned and i want to take it to an auction eventually when i get more this season. My skinning wasnt perfect and my question is what condition does the fur have to be in to sell it. Does it have to be perfect? I messed up on the eye and there is a big hole there now.
Thanks

Where do you live? Just wondering, cause if you live near Collins NY or around that area, I can suggest a buyer that would look your pelt over and tell you all you need to know about its condition.

fur doesn't have to be perfect to sell it. you can sell it green, not put up. don't expect to receive top dollar for it though as it will be down graded. the more you put up fur the better you will get and in no time you will be getting top dollar.
Going to an auction is a good way to learn just what the buyers are looking for even if you only have a few pelts you should go just for the experience.

So if you look at the auction results of the low and highs are the pelts that are sold green the low?

not always as some furs are damaged , rubbed , caught to early or caught to late , i have seen some green fur sell as high as fur put up, also seen rotten fur brought to the sales , thats why its good to go & talk with people about your fur as they can help with the put up; there is also a lot in the archives on this site on fur put up as in fox & coyotes , how to do the ears, washing the fur, tumbling & on & on .has helped me out a lot.
