I catch and eat a great deal of fish. I clean them all and course grind the fish I don't want. I place them in gallon containers and put in the freezer. I then take out before season and add some fish oil to the grind. Not a heck of a lot. Just enough to make it like motar mix. I usually use trout oil, but whatever I have at the time works. I use it on mink, otter, coon . Haven't had any complaints from them . Gave a gallon to a young trapper last year. He caught 18 coon and 4 mink on it. Not braggin" just fact.

Guts have bacteria which cause quicker spoilage. Mink and otter don't like spoiled and I like coon bait fresh also. Frozen heads would be fine. Cut small sticks with a fork or hook on them, spear your chunk high and to the back of a pocket set out of the water. Also make sure game fish heads are legal bait in your area, sometimes even parts of game animals and fish are a no no. Also, in regards to frozen or fresh 99.9% of us are using frozen on fish. good luck! don't sweat the small stuff 1. Get territory 2. Scout 3. Make and run a lot of good sets on location 4. Have fun, your trapping therefore you live.
