Hi all.
Been a while since I posted and for that I'm sorry.
I have been making my own lure and bait before this season started and would like to share my recipe.
Of course I don't know if you guys can get these things over there but I bet you can.
Go to any place where they deep fry food and ask for the old oil, not just any oil, but the stuff that goes semi solid when cold - vasalene. The best stuff is that which has been used to cook a lot of fish.
Next, some very smelly fish oil, the strongest smelling you can find, mackeral, herring, tuna, anything like that.
Mix the two together with a good helping of salt.
Thats it...
Ok, now the facts. This lure will pull a fox (no coyotes over here...) in from several hundred yards away and when they do come in they chew up the location where you have layed the lure.
If you paste it onto tree bark a couple of feet up, the foxes come in and chew the bark off (no kidding).
Because we can snare (cable restraints) over here, I have been setting two snares a few yards apart on a trail or track with a stick three feet long placed between them, the stick has been pasted with this lure. The fox comes in from any direction and chews up the stick, but always leaves via the trail...snared foxey!
Maybe you guys already know about this lure and if so, sorry for posting the obvious.
The scent is long lasting, long range and of course waterproof because of the deep frying fat.
All the best

I don't know about the mix. I got a tub of fat from a fish and chip shop and emptied a whole bottle of smelly fish oil in along with a cup of salt. Mix well and don't get any on you, it's very greasy and doesn't come off...

I was wondering what to use instead of a bait station for setting CR's and creating trails to it. This might work as a call as it seems to work for you.

Hi friend. i did alot of pre baiting this early fall.Only in holes though but you are using it in differant ways which is good.I mixed my grease with cheap tuna catfood though. It worked best for me.I also used grease down a dirthole and it works . they will hit the grease even when they are full or on fruits, nuts or corn.I have the same yote coming thru every few days still.Dont want to catch him though ,I seem to learn more about this location from them .He will hit the hole evry time but i have a carcass pile with beaver , rats ,and a whitetail with in 60 yards and it is rarely worked .I put the pile in cover but cant figure out what is wrong with it.If i dont put grease in it for awhile he will take a big dump in it.If you miss a grey at a grease hole expect about 5 inches of dirt over the trap !!That grease might help with your fisher trapping and getting them to hit a spot each cycle.

I am unfamiliar with smelly fish oils. What is best?
Trout, salmon, shellfish, shrimp?

Crayfish oil is about the worst smelling stuff you'll ever find in my opinion

I have put out some lure/bait today. I have some fish oils out and the mix mentioned above. One different lure per fence post with a wildlife night cam on them. If Mr Red drops by tonight it will be interesting to see what reaction if any, these different lures produces.
I also have a chew stick propped up on the fence. This is a stick coated in something the K9's like (hopefully) and they should simply pul up the stick from the ground or fence and chew the end off. Great on trails.
If anything happens I will post the vid on here and we can all see for ourselves what happens, but remember the best laid plans...

Dear Mr TrapWorks, I make a concoction similar to yours but with a couple extra ingredients. I can attest to your concoctions effectiveness. Critters cant resist it. Regards papabear

Thanks Papabear, I will be adding one or two ingredients of my own to this soon, but some more tests need to be done first! Fingers crossed that I can get out sometime this week.
