I like night time ,with a slight steady breeze, darker the better .My 3 favorite sounds are squealin bird, greyfox pup and an open reed Crit R call . If a fox or coyote doesnt come into them , wasnt none there . LOL . Know the cover , travelways and set up for them. I like a cross wind the best if hunting with a buddy .Most coyotes and fox come readily to the call .Learning the set ups is the tricky part. Practice shooting at nite will help alot.If you call a bunch and not seeing anything take a swing around your call spot and check for tracks and see what really happened.Probably the wind is most important thing to keep track of.Like trapping ,hunting or anything else the best way is to go out and do it. Read yeti s fresh snow thread ,pretty much says how ,when ,where what sound to call in a k-9.

The best time to call is when you can get out and do it. As for more productive times, right before dark and first light seem to be good Other then that, all night long has its moments. I hunt mostly thick lots with brushy cover. Set up within shotgun range of the thick and keep an eye down wind. Thats where most will show up. Don't expect one the first time out, this takes time and getting use to. If you konw any local callers see if you can tag along as it will curve your results faster.

The best time is anytime you can get out.

First calls should be low volume for the first series or 2, then increase volume in next couple series until last series can be heard far off.
