Caught my first beaver today, is there any pictorial web sites on how to skin them? Any suggestions will help.
Thank You.

Don't have a pictorial, but it's pretty easy.......just make a cut from the middle of the tail (Go around the vent) to the chin in a straight line. I always make a cut completly around the tail, and lop off all 4 feet before I start to make it easier, but not necessary. The hardest part can be working the legs out sometimes, but overall it's just a matter of cutting the pelt away from the body.

when i got my first beaver i wasnt careful and as i was making the cut from the tail to chin, i opened up the gut sack, haha. made the job much more difficult. Oh and wear gloves unless you want to smell for the rest of the week:)

Thanks guys, all went well. I think I left more meat on in some areas than I should, but just being careful.
Thank again

Hello, some have trouble with the legs. I too cut off the feet. After that I insert knife between the hide and meat and just go around the leg under the fur. Try it you might like it. A skinning trough, is real handy for beaver also. Take Care Ed.

Thanks Ed, I did cut off the feet and can understand how cut around the leg would help once you got into the skinning. Will try that next time. Yup Kid, I agree with Dale the table was best for me.
Thanks
