one thing good about powder dye is it will last for a long time. 1 LB of dye will do alot more than 2 - 3 dozen so its worth mixing the whole pound at once and save your dye for later just incase you need to redye used traps. I use a turkey fryer pot to dye my traps. Once I'm done, i cover the dye and put it away til I need to refresh traps later on. Once the season is over I dump the dye after I put away all my traps.

ive read that you can use the dye later on as long as it doesnt mold. does that mean i can freeze it?

Don't have a clue....are you saying just let the dye freeze in the boiling container over the winter and then use it next season?

I do, I let it freeze every year, I reuse it year after year, just keep adding dye, or sumac berries as needed. Even if it gets a little mold on it, what could it hurt, as long as it turns traps black?

I make my own DYE from black hickory hulls. Free and dyes the traps dark as night.
1 gallon of hulls to 3 gallons of water. Boil hulls and water for 15 min. Srain the hulls. Add traps to boiling water. 5 min, done.

i reuse my die year after year , seal it up in 3 5 gallon buckets leave room so it can freeze , when ready to do traps the next year dump back in & add a couple of bags of die good to go.
