The Long Island incident involving the pitbull mix and the bucket set made the tri-state (NY, NJ, Conn) news tonight promoting "Zephyrs Law" (the name of the dog) a Long Island wide ban on traps. I hope the DEC is with us on this one! If anyone from the LI area is familiar with the actual details of the incident please send me a PM @ T-man.

I called this about a year ago. No one wanted to hear it then. The more I hear the more I believe it is a set up. This dog walked up to the owner with the trap on his head. I don't know anyone who doesn't at least wire the trap off. I usually stake them. Is there a way of knowing how many trappers are in a given area in NY? I thought the DEC was keeping all that info to theirselves. What's the odds of that trap not having a tag on it? No matter how the media and hsus wants this to be played out, the dog wasn't in the control of the owner, and a pit bull at that. Adopt a pitbull and then see it's dark side, let see if we make it out to be a trapper than we can kill two birds with one stone. Has a trapper been named?

I would not jump to the breed of the dog here what about the breed of the owner. And i would own a pitt bull before alot of other breeds. Last year got bit by a beagle while i had a pitt bull on a leash. So not all dogs are the same has all people are not the same.

Hello fellas, I do not know all the facts on the issue. My interest is in the Zephyrs Law end of it.. I have read three different reports and all three have had significant differences and I saw the issue on Tri-State news channel last night as well. We have had a similar proposal here in Rockland and defeated it. I wanted to offer any related help possible to any LI TA's interested in the documentation. I hope to have a copy of the police report in the AM just to see how the detail was officially documented.

I agree with your comments Scott. It seems odd too me that this trapper was licensed, applied for a special permit, yet did not tag his trap or properly secure the trap. Then again, without the facts, it's all just speculation.
