International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (IAFWA) has issued a draft of a trapper ed manual for review by DEC staff and Trapper Education volunteers who will consider if some of the content should be used to update NYS Trapper Ed Program. Has anyone read the document, and what is your opinion of it ? I've got the manual, but have not read it yet.

I was informed that the final draft will be coming out soon. If anyone has read it and has any comments on it, good or bad, please send it to me. If anyone that has read it and is going to attend the NYSTA BOD meeting, please bring your comments in writing. We will be forwarding any comments to Wayne Jones. Not this Wayne, the other one. Thanks in advanced, Dave

I am opposed to this new manual. While it does contain some good materials it is far too complex and far too large. The existing manual is very good, but needs updating. We are trying to attract young people to trapping and this new, proposed manual will only serve to frighten them away! I would propose that certain parts of the proposed manual be added to our existing manual, but that we should stick with the existing one. I would furthur urge that trappers and trapper trainers contact Wayne Jones of DEC and tell him we don't want this crammed down our throats. Just another case of Big Brother telling us what is good for us!

THe source alone says a lot. I don't like being governed by the " International" anything. THere maybe some things in the manuel that are worthy of concideration, but that's for us to decide.
