A little while back Mole mentioned that the super-duper bait he made had begun to mold a little in storage. I don't know if he used any preservative in his. I have made some bait and added a cup of sodium benzoate and a cup and a half of glycerine to each gallon the other day. Does anyone think that it was not enough? Now I'm ready to place it in the pint jars I have. They are the old kind of pint mason jars with the bail on them. I thought I wouldn't use the gasket with them and that instead, maybe a thin layer of wax poured on top of the bait in the jars would prevent flies and exclude air to prevent the mold. I'm thinking long term storage here, as it will take me a couple years to use it up even if I give some away. Freezing is not an option for me. Can I seal them up, and will the preservatives I've added stop the bait from working? Don't want to have the bait blow up the jars, but don't want it to mold either. Though the wax might give where the jar gaskets wouldn't.

You probably have enough preserative to stop your bait from rotting. If your bait is still working,by all meens dont seal it tight, wait for it to stop working or you will probably have an explosion. Ed

Thanks for the response Ed, I think I will just put it in the jars without any seals, and then just watch it. I don't think it is working now though. I did notice when I put the preservative in it ( that was last Friday), the bait got alot dryer in texture. I may add a little more glycerin to improve the texture. Lot of varibles to this bait making process!
