i finally found some coyote tracks by my parent's house. i've been planning on setting this area most the season, but haven't seen much sign til today. i found a trail that leads into a small opening that was almost totally packed down with canine tracks. trail comes out to an old railroad bed, sleds travel alot, right next to the road . it crosses a deep (3ft) ditch right before the RRbed.
i was thinking of trying a blind set (walk through) here on the trail with a duke #2 os. then somewhere just off the trail with a dirthole, same trap.
for bait i have some moles/voles i had trapped from our house that have been in the unheated shed. should i try and get them to taint before i stick them in the hole? i have a day or 2 before i will set this because the weather is warming up and getting nasty (freezing-rain to rain all night then snow tomorow afternoon/night.)
we've had the snow for a couple days and looked to be at least a few sets of tracks in and out of the area. how often would coyotes travel the same area? the area they were headed to and from was towards houses where there are alot of cottontail rabbits.
thanks for any opinions or ideas you might have. Dom

I don't have any exerience with blind set's but if I were you, I'd be setting a dirt hole with a urine post backup within 10 feet. The voles that you spoke of can be used fresh, no need to taint them. I not sure what your 'yotes travel pattern is, because they are all different based of food supply, population density, etc. but in my experience most 'yotes make the rounds anywhere between 3-7 days. This time of the year they can be really hard to track down, espicially the males as they are looking for mates. They tend to do some really starnge things this time of the year. Good luck and let us know how you make out!
