I've got a couple of sets out at a farmer's place experiencing flooding. Too bad he didn't mention it earlier as I only made sets on Friday and season closes tomorrow! No idea what beaver are bringing locally. Just guessing but don't think the new regs have made a big difference.

I have been doing some here in CNY. Being a beginner, I don't get a lot, but I am enjoying the time doing it and I am learning quite a bit as I go each year..
Oh and yes, I took out a bit of time to modify all the traps to the new state regs for the southern tier. It is a rather time consuming ordeal...

I took three, but our season also closes today. I have had sets out for about a week and only have six 330's so I was moving them around quite a bit. I have had problems with trap shy beaver in that flowage, and couldn't use footholds because the water was not deep enough to be sure of drowning the catch. Wish we had more time as I also have a lady who wanted me to trap the beaver in her pond but I just won't get to them. I, of course, also modified my traps, but really don't think it is affecting the harvest. The cost of trapping probably has turned off alot of the casual trappers and I think that overall the harvest of many furbearers will be down.

Been hitting a few, having more problems advoiding otters themselves than the new trigger, reg wich is worthless, find im walking in and back out with my traps quite regular due to the abundance of otter sign on the flows themselves. know if I set them there is gonna be dead otters, getting pissed all over again, bob gottie, bill sherrick and gordon are @#@@%$#@ and need to reopen our seasons they stolen from us here in the catskills for nothing more than feel good regulaton, in effect they are not allowing a beaver harvest either, if a man wants to stay legal and advoid mishaps in our now closed otter wmu's he has to pass on just about every decent beaver set he comes accross, new trigger regulation or not ....jim

Trapped 4 out of a nearby creek over the holidays. Two very large ones. I'll show some pics when I get them developed.

Here in Maine we still have 6 more weeks to trap. So far this is looking like my best year ever with over 30 something beavers. I want to get more than redknot so I can brag at bear camp this year.

My partner and I are still at the beaver game, we have taken almost 50 during the last warm weather along with several m-rats. We plan to keep going.

Going out today to see if I can get some "bites" with a few under ice sets. Took 11 beaver before freeze up, but there were a few left that I couldn't get to then.

I am positive that 80% of the beaver taken here with our short 2 week season are shot and left to float away and rot.The DEC shares a lot of the blame for this ,but you can bet that they would be the last to know about it.

Dave, you beating me for sure...I have just gotten out on som eof the ice, but it's starting to look like swiss cheese again...I have also been cursing at Bob G. when trying to keep zip-ties in the right spot in the freezing cold dark nights...Anyone else cursing when the trigger keeps sliding into the spring eye-holes while your fighting to get a beaver out of a trap while trying to hold steady on a clay bar when you can feel that icey water seeping into your hip boots?? It might have looked good to him in the office, but out in the real world, it's a different story...I haven't seen any wardens out, but I hope they will see that all the effort is there, but if the trigger is bent a little, it's not because I am trying to catch otter!! Can't wait for better ice, and baited foot traps!!

In my area some nuisance trappers are abusing the system and as a consequence there are few beaver in the area. DEC should be monitoring these permits much more closely! Nuisance Permits for beaver or deer should NOT be issued unless that land is open to public hunting and trapping. As it now DEC doesn't even check to see how many beaver are killed under these permits. What a waste of a resource!

I`ve caught a few. With the new reg. I`m finding beaver very deep into the trap before it fires, almost hip caught. I checked out a spot I havent trapped in a couple years. Beaver are there but so are the otters. I only set one 330 and a few rat traps. I wish they would a least let us catch 3 or 4 per season. like they do with marten. I also have bobcats in my area but no open season. WMU 4A.
