My lovely bride and I spent five days in Lake Placid and was able to do some fishing each day. Thought I'd share a few photos. Our view from the balcony overlooking the pool and mountains. The olympic ski jumps in the left side of the photo. Out early for a few hours of fishing. Strictly a morning or evening proposition this time of year. A decent to very good olive and trico hatch mid-mornings. West Branch of the Ausable early in the day on some nice pocket water that yielded a few browns. Same water but upstream about five miles. Slow and deeper and looked pretty sterile until the hatches started. White Face in the background. Five or six rise forms in this photo during the middle of a hatch. Saw a black bear one morning, got to watch a mink hunt/fish for about 15 minutes another morning and watched this osprey struggle with a very nice sized trout on the last morning.

Jim, great pictures and thanks for sharing! I was also up there over the weekend and fished for smallmouths! Did VERY good one day (35 fish in 3.5 hours) and the second day wasn't as good and became difficult with the wind. Hope you hooked a few and ate well! Great view from the balcony as well!!!!!!

Enough cooperative fish to keep things interesting.
Sounds like you found some very cooperative smallmouths!
