Anyone else notice that once the deer season started that the coyote sign had decreased significantly? I saw a lot more sign before the season started. I am thinking that the number of hunters in the woods on their ATV's have changed the yotes patterns. Any thoughts?

I think it's just a funtion of activity for now. I'm guessing most critters will resume more normal habits as some time passes after the masses in the woods.

I think alot has to due with the coyotes finding the gut piles & not having to leave the woods as often.

Defiantly a combination of both a lot of human activity and extra food. I don't even attempt to trap during deer season, just too many people wanting to share my catches with me

I think you guys are on the right track. Hopefully the sign returns soon before I'm buried in snow.

Well it has just about snowed everyday here. I have been luck and just missed the big lake effect that hit this week. It was about a mile from me!!

i hope to incorporate my snow machine into my line the next time im up and in the steel slinging mood anyone here use them? i know the trail system cant be the best place to set but i see them using the easy walking path i make with my sled as well. so many its almost worth a try. ive secured permission to ride onto most of my farmers fields to set/check but with between 2-3' of snow on the ground i may just sit back, relax, ride and wait for the lake effect machine to calm down before i pursue the yotes. any advice would be helpful. they cant be eating all that well with the amount of snow thats fallen. slower deer for them to hit? yes but id guess everythings hurting for food at this point.

I would like to thing that between She-Wolf and myself, we thinned out enough to make a difference for wintering deer. (I wish). Dave

those pictures came out real good for a cheap camera, eds got some splaining to do this year ;D ................................................................................... the coyote sign is still there during deer season, if you think about it, a major transition is accuring during those four weeks along with hunter encroachment to a degree, think about the true or actual hunting pressure from deer hunters, it aint nothing but a thing and its probably more of a thing in our minds than the coyotes actual overall response to dealing with it.
we pretty much go from fall right into winter and there travel pattern is basicaly adjusting very quickly with the season and available food source, if your not adjusting with them its hard to play catch up if your mind set is on a fall travel\hunting patern when you return to trapping after thinking deer for four weeks.
find they kinda settle into a some what steady circut after the pups are thinned out some and the easy prey base is under a blanket of snow more or less.
little bit larger predator and they have to cover a hair more territory along with slightly different areas for the amount of a comfortable food source that will substane them, then the traditional fall locations provided on a more stead fast basis, or convenant time frame for the trapper that might of been or is still on a fall pattern, young dumb and run mind set.......... thats my take on it any how and im sticking with it, because im a stuborn no good so and so that doesnt know any better ;D....jim

the 115 pound coyote was a dog\ wolf hybrid shot in PA. last year I belive, the picture was circulating last year about this time also. the dog was reputedly a nueterd, pet gone wild or on the loose, killed in PA, from what ive heard.....jim

Don't I feel like an *&%$##%. I should of known better. Jim you are correct. It's like the one that we had seen on the stretcher. People that have exotic pets should keep them under control. I guess they don't care all that much about there pet. Dave

Jim, You may want to ease off the SHE-VOOLF a bit, I'd hate to see ya with a head that looked like an onion bag full of golf balls. I think she is about to let loose on ya...(from what Dave says). The remark about deer sammiches got to her, it was beef all along.
