How long do lures last? I have about 20- 1oz bottles of lures given to me from my father in- law. For some reason one lure seems to work better than others. I was wondering if they go bad? These lures could be up to 15 years old.......if they don't go bad how would you tell if they were still good.?

Most if not all lures have a preservative in them and if keep in a dark, cool place they should last indefinatly. I have lures that I forgot about for over 20 years in my mothers refridgerator and used them and caught critters on them just like I used to. I lot of lures will actually get better with age, so unless there is mold or a bad odar, use them!

I was given a bottle of Nelsons lure that is prob. older than me, and caught 4 coyotes at one set. Squirrel Killer thats the same lure that you won at the auction at the rondy. Take good care of it. I hope you have the same success that I have had with it. Dave

Thanks for the information i'm having a hard time catching anything. I know that i must be doing something wrong. I was not sure if the lure was the problem or myself. I had no idea that lures had got better over the years. Also the bottles were tape around the top to seal the oder in (my father in law said) which i thought was a good idea.

Are you getting critters visiting your sets and just not catching them or are they just walking past your sets?

I've got a great mom. Growing up she would pick up roadkills for me if she happened to see any, she would cart my butt back and forth to check traps everyday when it was too snowy to ride my bike and yes, I stored a lot of lure and bait in her freezer & fridge and she never complained. I don't know how many times I'd come home and drop off the fur in the basement before school and she'd step over it time and again to do the laundry or whatever until I got home to skin it. Not many mom's out there like that....Thanks Mom ;D
